About this page

Zoll AEDs are different from every other defibrillator on the market in one specific way: the pads coach the rescuer. A sensor embedded in the electrode listens to chest compressions through the patient and the AED speaks up in real time — "push harder," "good compressions," "let the chest rise." It's called Real CPR Help, and it raises survival rates measurably. But it only works with genuine Zoll-specific pads. Generic AED electrodes can't talk to the device.

United AED carries the full Zoll AED pad family in current-dated, factory-sealed stock — CPR-D-padz for the AED Plus, CPR Uni-padz for the AED 3, Stat-padz II for the AED Pro line, and Pedi-padz II for pediatric patients. Every Zoll defibrillator pad we ship comes from authorized US distribution — no aftermarket or repackaged inventory.

Find the Right Zoll Pad for Your Defibrillator

Zoll has changed its electrode system meaningfully between AED generations. The AED Plus and the AED 3 use completely different pad designs, even though they look similar on the outside. Match your device first, order second.

If you've got a fleet that mixes AED Plus and AED 3 units, label your spare pad inventory clearly. A casual buyer reaching into the wrong box during an emergency is one of the more common AED program failures we see.

CPR-D-padz — The All-in-One Adult Pad for AED Plus

CPR-D-padz is a single, large pre-connected pad that opens like a wing. The unique design positions both electrodes on one piece, with the CPR sensor sitting between them directly over the sternum. When you start compressions, the AED Plus reads compression depth and rate through the sensor and gives the rescuer audible feedback — this is the feature that separates Zoll from every other AED brand.

Don't try to substitute Stat-padz II or another two-piece electrode. The CPR sensor wiring is part of the CPR-D-padz cartridge, and the AED Plus won't deliver Real CPR Help feedback without it.

CPR Uni-padz — One Pad, Adult or Pediatric

Zoll redesigned the AED 3 to use a single universal pad — CPR Uni-padz — that switches between adult and pediatric mode at the press of a button on the device. No more digging through the carry case for the right cartridge in an emergency. The AED 3 prompts the rescuer to confirm patient type, the shock energy adjusts automatically, and the pads handle both populations.

If you've upgraded from AED Plus to AED 3, do not assume your CPR-D-padz inventory carries over. The Uni-padz connector and firmware are different. Order 8900-000280-01 for the AED 3 specifically.

Pediatric Pads — Pedi-padz II for AED Plus and AED Pro

For the AED Plus and the AED Pro/Pro 3, pediatric patients need separate Pedi-padz II electrodes. When clipped into the device, Pedi-padz automatically lower the defibrillation energy to a level appropriate for patients under 8 years old or under approximately 55 lbs (25 kg). Adult AHA guidance still applies: if Pedi-padz aren't available, use adult pads — don't withhold defibrillation.

Pedi-padz II are not compatible with the AED 3. That device uses Uni-padz with the child mode toggle and won't recognize Pedi-padz II at all.

Stat-padz II — The Professional Electrode for AED Pro

The AED Pro and AED Pro 3 are professional-grade defibrillators used by EMS, fire, and clinical first responders. They use Stat-padz II — a two-piece adult electrode without the CPR Help sensor. If your facility runs an AED Pro alongside an AED Plus, do not cross the pad inventories. The AED Pro accepts only Stat-padz II for adult patients and Pedi-padz II for pediatric.

Zoll Pad Shelf Life — Why It's Longer Than Other Brands

Zoll prints a 5-year shelf life from manufacture on CPR-D-padz and Uni-padz — significantly longer than the typical 2 years for Philips or Cardiac Science electrodes. Stat-padz II and Pedi-padz II carry shorter 2-year dates. Store all Zoll pads between 32°F and 122°F (0–50°C) and out of direct sun. Heat above that range degrades the gel even inside sealed pouches.

The AED Plus and AED 3 both run periodic self-tests and flip the front-panel indicator window red if the unit detects expired pads. Don't rely on the indicator alone — physically inspect the printed expiration date on the pouch every 90 days as part of your AED program compliance check. Refresh the matching Zoll AED Plus battery or AED 3 battery at the same interval when due.

FDA Clearance and Why Aftermarket Pads Are a Bad Bet

Every Zoll AED pad sold by United AED is FDA-cleared, sourced through Zoll's authorized US distribution, and shipped sealed. We do not stock repackaged or aftermarket Zoll-compatible electrodes — and we'd push back on anyone who tried to sell them to you.

Two reasons aftermarket Zoll pads are a problem:

  • Real CPR Help relies on calibrated sensor data. Off-brand pads either lack the sensor entirely or feed bad data, defeating Zoll's primary clinical advantage.
  • Insurance and Good Samaritan coverage can lapse. If a non-FDA-cleared pad was on the device during a rescue that ended in litigation, your AED program's protection may not stand. The savings on aftermarket pads don't survive the first deposition.

After a Rescue: Replace, Document, Re-Deploy

If your Zoll has been deployed in an event:

  1. Replace the pads. They're single-use. Even if no shock was delivered, the gel contacted the patient.
  2. Check the battery. CR123 lithium cells in the AED Plus, rechargeable Lithium-ion in the AED 3. Replace if the unit shows low.
  3. Pull the rescue data. Use Zoll's RescueNet Code Review software to download the event file for medical and legal records.
  4. Log the rescue. Date, time, responder, outcome. OSHA and most state Good Samaritan statutes expect documented response.
  5. Run a manual self-test. Confirm green indicator before returning the AED to the cabinet.

Training Electrodes — Practice Without Burning Real Pads

Live Zoll pads are single-use. CPR-D-padz and Uni-padz both contain the CPR sensor and start their service life the moment they connect to the device. For CPR/AED training, use Zoll training products — the training cartridges are designed to mate with the Zoll AED Trainer rather than a live AED Plus or AED 3. Don't waste a $150 cartridge on a class.

Bulk Pad Programs and Fleet Replacement

United AED runs scheduled pad replacement programs for facilities managing more than 5 Zoll defibrillators. We track your AED inventory, ship current-dated CPR-D-padz, Uni-padz, or Stat-padz II before your existing pads expire, and bill against a master account. Common segments:

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between CPR-D-padz and CPR Uni-padz?

CPR-D-padz is the one-piece adult electrode for the Zoll AED Plus only. CPR Uni-padz is the universal pad for the AED 3 — it handles both adult and pediatric patients with a child-mode toggle on the device. The two are not interchangeable.

How much do Zoll AED pads cost in the US?

CPR-D-padz typically run $130–$170. CPR Uni-padz are $170–$220. Stat-padz II are $90–$120 and Pedi-padz II are $130–$160. Bulk pricing applies on volume orders — United AED publishes live prices on each product page.

Do Pedi-padz II fit the AED Plus, AED 3, and AED Pro?

Pedi-padz II fit the AED Plus and AED Pro/Pro 3. They do not fit the AED 3 — that device uses CPR Uni-padz with a built-in pediatric mode.

How long do Zoll AED pads last unused?

CPR-D-padz and CPR Uni-padz carry a 5-year shelf life from manufacture — longer than Philips or Cardiac Science electrodes. Stat-padz II and Pedi-padz II carry 2-year dates. Storage between 32°F and 122°F preserves the gel.

Are these genuine new Zoll pads, factory-sealed and dated?

Yes. United AED ships only authorized, current-dated, factory-sealed Zoll electrodes. We do not carry refurbished, repackaged, or aftermarket Zoll-compatible pads.

Can I use Stat-padz II on the AED Plus?

No. Stat-padz II are designed for the AED Pro and AED Pro 3. The AED Plus requires CPR-D-padz to enable Real CPR Help feedback — the connector and CPR sensor wiring are different.

Do I need to replace the pads after every AED self-test failure?

Almost always, yes. The AED Plus and AED 3 flag pad failures specifically when their daily self-test detects an issue. If the indicator window is red and the device chirps, replace the pads first — it's the most common failure mode.

Can I keep spare Zoll pads off the device?

Yes, as long as they stay in the original sealed pouch and within storage temperature. Keep one set installed on the AED and a spare in the carry case — that's standard AED program practice.
